geastures/cultures

We have been talking about different cultures and what is normal and what is not. The thing that I have come to realize is that nothing we consider normal is what other countries consider normal and vice versa. There is not a certain norm that is universal except to have love, food, and shelter. It is interesting to see the different ways that people survive, such as the Japaneses toilet seat and the various ways the cleans themselves. It was also kinda cool to see the different methods of what is normal, such as the taboo, something we know about but it is something we don't discuss. This is a very captivating topic and actually keeps my attention!

I also find it interesting how a lot of thing in our culture are like unwritten rule that should be broken (like taboos). But if you're in another country and they have different taboos than you, misunderstandings are bound to happen. I've mistakes like that in different countries before and it's quite akward.

I found the mirror/seethrough toilet interesting as a way to get across a taboo. Technically, it's no different from a real toilet, they can't see you....Except you can see them, and that creates a whole different mindset, even though very little, practically, has changed. We consider it weird(I know I do) but why is it weird/a taboo? Maybe it wouldn't be in another country, and you never think about what other culture's gestures or taboos would be.
